Behavioral Health

During her time in practice, Andrea Dameron, DNP, APRN, has noticed an increasing need for mental healthcare services as well as the rapidly increasing barriers to accessing care. Due to this, she has decided to bring behavioral health to Whole Self Wellness to serve this need in her community. Services include individual therapy, family therapy, gender-affirming care, and medication management. Most insurance is accepted, please inquire.

  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). ART utilizes a combination of techniques used in many traditional therapies to reprogram how distressing memories and images are stored in the brain so that physical and emotional reactions are decreased. It uses bilateral stimulation - rapid eye movements similar to those that occur during REM sleep. The specific and direct approach of ART can help clients achieve recovery from symptoms and reactions that may have been bothering them for many years, or even just having begun recently. • CBT is a form of therapy designed to treat a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness. The core premise of CBT is that psychological problems are based, in part, on unhelpful thought patterns (cognitive distortions) that have been learned and reinforced throughout life. In learning the root of these thinking patterns and recognizing what triggers them, someone can gain a better understanding of their behavior, and achieve relief from their symptoms to feel more effective in their day-to-day life.

  • DBT is similar to CBT, however it has been specially adapted to support folks who feel emotions very intensely. “Dialectical” means trying to understand how two things that seem opposite could both be true. Sometimes accepting yourself as you are and changing your behavior could feel like a contradiction. DBT provides the framework to recognize that it is possible to achieve both of these goals simultaneously.

  • EFT primarily draws from attachment theory in order to facilitate development of secure connection with the self and others. This modality helps clients identify and change negative processing and interpersonal patterns that create distress. EFT focuses on the development of emotional awareness, allowing clients to recognize and express their emotional needs more effectively in order to respond to partners or family members in healthier, constructive ways.

  • At Whole Self Wellness, we understand that there are many intersecting barriers that can sometimes prevent an individual’s ability to receive life changing and lifesaving gender affirming services. Our therapists can fulfill the requirement for outpatient therapy as part of the process to begin gender affirming hormone therapy, as well as the letters necessary to begin hormone therapy.

  • The use of virtual health platforms has increased accessibility to behavioral health services, allowing you to receive care in the privacy of your own home. It allows for flexibility for clients who travel for work, have schedules that don’t always allow consistent in-person sessions, or for those who do not have access to reliable transportation. The telehealth therapy platform that we use is entirely HIPAA compliant. Please note, at the time of a telehealth therapy session, you must have video access on any device, you must be located in the state of Connecticut, and must not be in a moving vehicle.
